Sandburg Board Approves Associate Deans, Other Faculty Moves

The Carl Sandburg College Board of Trustees approved several actions involving faculty members during its regular monthly meeting Feb. 26. 

The Board approved the appointment of associate deans for the 2021-22 academic year. James Hutchings will serve as associate dean of humanities and fine arts; Lara Roemer as associate dean for social and business sciences; and Marjorie Smolensky as associate dean for math and natural sciences.

Mathematics instructor Peter Kay was granted tenure effective for the 2021-22 academic year, and the Board approved contract renewals for the 2021-22 academic year for the following non-tenured faculty members:

  • Will Anderson (nursing)
  • Chris Barber (criminal justice)
  • Jeremy Bohrer (mathematics)
  • Tina Braun-Smith (associate degree nursing)
  • Renee Eickman (sociology)
  • Mollisa Kurz (accounting)
  • Tammi Lewis (associate degree nursing)
  • Ian Milligan (manufacturing technology)
  • Sonrisa Nolan (speech)
  • Joshua Seifert (business and economics)
  • Robert Thompson (theater)
  • Sharon Trotter-Martin (English)
  • Marla Turgeon (library instructional services)

The Board also voted to agree to an extension through fiscal year 2026 of its labor agreement with the Sandburg Education Association. The agreement includes salary and wage increases of 2.75 percent for fiscal year 2022 and 3 percent for fiscal years 2023-26. The College’s 2022 fiscal year begins July 1. 

The Board’s next scheduled meeting is 7 p.m. March 25. Due to the coronavirus, a location has yet to be announced.
